Colonel Joshua L. Moon was commissioned as an Air Defense Artillery Officer by the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1994.

His troop command and staff assignments include service as a Platoon Leader and Battery Executive Officer, 2-44 ADA (Fort Campbell, Kentucky): Battery Commander, ADA Battery, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment (Fort Carson, Colorado); Instructor and Assistant Professor of History at West Point; Battalion Operations Officer, 2-44 ADA (Fort Campbell and OIF); and Air and Missile Defense Staff Officer, US Pacific Command (Hawaii), Battalion Commander, 3-43 ADA (Fort Bliss, TX.) and Brigade Deputy Commander, 11th ADA BDE (Fort Bliss, TX.)

Colonel Moon's civilian education includes a Baccalaureate of Science from the United States Military Academy, a Masters of Arts in History from Florida State University, and a Doctorate of Philosophy from Florida State University. He is also a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College and US Naval War College.

Colonel Moon is married to the former Christine Summers of Mount Juliet, Tennessee. The couple has four children: sons Jackson Lee and Preston Alexander, and twin girls, Vivienne Marie and Oliva Grace.
