JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas (July 2, 2018) -- Members of the 410th Contracting Support Brigade welcomed their new leader during a change-of-command ceremony July 2 at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Col. Robert McDonald assumed command of the brigade from Col. Dariel Mayfield in a ceremony officiated by Brig. Gen. Bill Boruff, the commanding general for the Mission and Installation Contracting Command, on behalf of the Army Contracting Command.

Boruff set expectations for McDonald in his newest leadership role and also highlighted the 410th CSB's accomplishments under Mayfield's command.

"You now lead the fine Soldiers and civilians of the 410th Contracting Support Brigade," Boruff said of the new commander. "It is your task to continue to lead this exceptional organization and build upon a ready, transparent and accountable organization that is built on trust and respect."

McDonald comes to the 410th CSB from the Pentagon where he served as the deputy military assistant at the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment.

"I am truly humbled and honored for this opportunity. I am well aware of the great gift that has been afforded me today," McDonald said. "Command is always a privilege. Command in time of war and in the transition of a post-war Army is a distinct honor and one that I do not take lightly."

The new commander went on to say that the 410th CSB change of command is a continuation of the Army's promise to provide trained and ready expeditionary contracting Soldiers to the operational force.

McDonald was commissioned as a second lieutenant and Field Artillery Officer from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps at Florida A&M University in 1995. He joined the Army Acquisition Corps in 2006. Since that time he has completed various assignments of increased authority at the command and staff level including deployments to Iraq, Qatar, Afghanistan and Liberia.

Mayfield led the brigade through numerous missions, exercises and contract executions since January. This included executing a brigade unit contingency contracting exercise at nearby Camp Bullis; planning and contract execution for Beyond the Horizon 2018 training exercise; and spearheading the transition of Soto Cano Air Base support operations contract to the Logistics Civil Augmentation Program. Mayfield departs the brigade to serve as the deputy of contracting operations for the Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.

During the ceremony, Mayfield acknowledged the members of the 410th CSB, his command sergeant major, the deputy to the commander and leadership team for their support and dedication to the brigade during his tenure at Fort Sam Houston.

"Thank you for your support, dedication and hard work in leading the brigade toward the new vision and line of effort," Mayfield said. "You truly made a difference concerning all aspects of improving the brigade's functionality and support to the warfighter."

The 410th CSB is responsible for the planning and execution of contingency contracting support for Army South in support of Army and joint operations throughout the Southern Command area of responsibility.
