The United States Army has played a critical role for over 243 years in preserving and protecting our Nation's freedom and way of life. As we reflect with pride on our heritage and accomplishments, we must remember the importance of preserving the well-being of our military, family members, and civilians.

As we celebrate this time off, proactively make safety part of your planning and do not overlook the dangers associated with the holiday. The increase of outdoor activities requires all of us to remain vigilant and manage risks associated with celebrations and outdoor activities. Do not throw caution to the wind.

Engaged leadership and individual commitment are the keys to success. Discussions regarding discipline and avoiding individual and/or group misconduct is key to keeping your team safe and combat ready. Reinforce the use of the "Buddy System," the responsible use of alcohol, water safety, heat injury prevention, sexual harassment and assault prevention.

Thank you for your service and all you do for our Army and Nation. Let's work together to ensure the entire Eighth Army family enjoys an accident-free holiday without the loss of life or serious injuries. Remember, each of you are a vital part of the Eighth Army Team!
