The U.S. Army Chief of Staff recognized the service of his South Korean counterpart during an Army Arrival Ceremony at Whipple Field, Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Va., June 20, 2018.

During the ceremony, Gen. Mark A. Milley, U.S. Army Chief of Staff, presented Gen. Young Woo Kim, Chief of Staff of the Army, Republic of Korea, with the Legion of Merit for his service. Under the leadership of Gen. Kim, the Korean Army has modernized in training, equipment and doctrine, making it one of the strongest forces in Asia and a flourishing partner with the United States. Gen. Kim put forth five significant lines of effort to modernize the Korean Army and prepare it for operations in the 21st Century.

In addition to receiving the Legion of Merit, Gen. Kim reviewed the troops with Lt. Col. Jeffery Burroughs, Commander, 4th Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard).

Gen. Kim was in Washington D.C., to discuss matters of mutual interest between the two allies.
