CHIÈVRES, Belgium -- The road police of Hainaut came on Chièvres Air Base June 8 to conduct a high speed vehicular certification and training with the Multinova Radar.
The goal of the operation was to compare the real speed of a vehicle with the speed indicated by the meter of the car. "It's not possible for us to do it on open roads, because it's too dangerous," explained Michel Borgelion, chief inspector of the road police of Hainaut.
The Belgian police has tested its radar at Chièvres Air Base since 2012. On behalf of the USAG Benelux Garrison Commander, the Chièvres Directorate of Emergency Services and 424th Air Base Squadron ensure that Belgian police have a safe and controlled environment.
For Belgian police, the big advantage of the base is that it allows drivers to ride on a long, wide and flat straight line.
"We dont' know another place like that around," Borgelion said. "All our drivers received a training and know what they do, but it's always delicate (to drive so fast)," he added.
The USAG Benelux DES routinely conducts joint-training exercises with Host Nation Law Enforcement partners to reinforce relationships and enhance the level of emergency response provided to the community.
