ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- Floyd H. Bavery, Traffic Management Specialist, Joint Munitions Command, was recently recognized with the Louis Dellamonica Award, as one of eleven outstanding U.S. Army Materiel Command Personnel of the Year recipients for the fiscal year of 2017.
The Louis Dellamonica Award recognizes outstanding accomplishments that significantly contributed to AMC's mission and overarching goals and objectives. Each year AMC selects employees, military and civilian, below the rank of general officer and senior executive service, which meet the established criteria and stand out as model employees.
This award was named in honor of Louis Dellamonica, a general engineer with AMC's Hawthorne Army Depot, in Nevada. Dellamonica was both the oldest and longest-serving Department of Defense employee before retiring in January 2007 at the age of 94 with more than 65 years of government service.
Bavery has served as a transportation management specialist in Materiel Management Operations Transportation Division, since September of 2005. He has served more than 29 years with the federal government and more than 17 years with AMC. His dedication and exemplary performance contributed to the Munitions and Logistics Readiness Center's successful movement of critical munitions to Combatant Commands.
Bavery currently serves as the team leader for the Airlift Operations and Foreign Military Sales team within the Transportation Division. His responsibilities include the scheduling of high priority airlift munitions requirements managed by JMC through the Air Mobility Command's airlift channel network and arranging for the sea and airlift of Foreign Military Sales munitions.
In 2017, Bavery led efforts to plan and execute the movement of 4,735 short tons of urgently required munitions into the U.S. European Command, U.S. Central Command, and U.S. Pacific Command areas of operation.
"His attention to detail and relationships with strategic staff members at all points within the Defense Transportation System have been the key elements enabling critical deliveries supporting operational requirements," said Allen Rus, Supervisory Traffic Management Specialist.
Bavery planned and executed the distribution of Foreign Military Sales munitions requirements consisting of 19,367 short tons of ammunition delivered on time worldwide supporting 52 different countries. He coordinated the movement of 10,254 short tons via vessel and 8,971 short tons by airlift. His expertise and coordination ensured critical organic lift was utilized to the maximum extent, reducing the transportation costs to the original FMS case.
"I am humbled and honored of this recognition by AMC," said Bavery. "I know my accomplishments are the result of my teammates in material management and the Security Assistance Management Directorate. In addition, the incredible mission support provided by many dedicated civilians and airman of the Air Mobility Command have allowed the team to successfully execute the mission. I proudly accept this award for all the great work we do together."
JMC produces small-, medium-, and large-caliber ammunition items for the Department of Defense. It is the logistics integrator for life-cycle management of ammunition. The primary mission of JMC is to manage the production, storage, issue, and demilitarization of conventional ammunition for all U.S. Military Services.
Bavery was recognized by Rhonda VanDeCasteele, Executive Director, JMC, for his exceptional contributions and support to the transportation of ammunition mission.
VanDeCasteele noted it is a great honor to be recognized as one of the most exceptional personnel within AMC. "Congratulations Mr. Bavery and thank you for a job well done!"
"Floyd is a mentor to his team members," noted Rus, who nominated Bavery for the award. "Personnel who work for him have a sincere appreciation for who he is and how hard he works to ensure our customer's needs are met. He is respected not only by his teammates, but also by his peers within the transportation community."
