1st Information Operations (IO) Command (Land) welcomed its new commander, Col. Brian C. Mellen, in a change of command ceremony at the Thurman Auditorium, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, June 1.

Mellen replaces Col. James A. Skelton, who is set to retire after nearly 29 years of service.

Maj. Gen. Christopher S. Ballard, commanding general, U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM), presided over the ceremony giving a heartfelt welcome to Mellen and lauded Skelton for a job well done.

1st Information Operations Command (Land) is the Army's only active duty IO Brigade, 1st IO provides information operation support to the Army and Joint forces through deployable support teams, reach back planning and analysis, and specialized training to support freedom of action in the Information Environment and to deny the same to our adversaries.
