Munson offers occupational therapy

Munson Army Health Center has expanded services of physical therapy and chiropractic to now include occupational therapy with a new name change to the Rehabilitation Center. "We can now better serve our patients and get after medical readiness because we now provide the full spectrum rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries," said Army Cpt. Lindsay Gordon, Department of Rehabilitation Chief.

The Rehabilitation Center can help with many musculoskeletal conditions to include: back and neck pain, shoulder pain or mobility issues, hip pain, knee pain, ankle pain, sprains or stiffness, foot pain and plantar fasciitis, muscle strains, myofascial dysfunction, shin splints, tendonitis and chronic pain.

"We offer POSE running classes monthly at Gruber Gym. These classes focus on learning a running form that is shown to cause less running injuries," said Gordon.

The new Occupational Therapy program focuses on the upper extremity evaluation and treatment, specializing in elbow, wrist and hand conditions. "I have had my share of time in Physical Therapy over my 23 years and this is the most responsive I've had yet," said Army Col. Richard Martin. "I have renewed faith in the medical system. I am impressed with the whole Munson Rehabilitation Department," added Martin.

Chiropractic services is another treatment option for back and neck issues to help Soldiers recover and increase readiness. "Trigger point dry needling is also offered for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions and chronic pain," said Gordon.

The Rehabilitation center offers direct access in physical therapy to our Active Duty and other beneficiaries ages 13-65. A referral is not required for physical therapy. Gruber gym appointments with the physical therapy staff for some patients returning to strengthening following injury. The Gruber Gym appointments focus on teaching patients proper lifting techniques.

To be seen by our Occupational Therapist or Chiropractor a referral from your PCM is required. Our chiropractic clinic is limited to Active Duty service members. To schedule an appointment with the Rehabilitation Center for physical therapy call 684-6338.
