JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, WASH. -- When Cris Wu heard about a visiting family member from Portland, Ore., who didn't have personal transportation or the chance to make hotel arrangements, she took these challenges on to solve herself. Wu, a staff nurse and charge nurse on 7 North, made hotel reservations for the visitor and attempted to arrange for a complimentary cab ride. When the cab ride fell though, Wu drove the visitor to the hotel herself and also brought her back to Madigan for another visit. For her selfless service and patient-centered care, Wu earned recognition as a DAISY award winner.

The DAISY Award is a nationwide program in collaboration with The American Organization of Nurse Executives that rewards extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses. Winners of the award are announced every quarter selected by a committee which examines all nominee submissions.
