Stephen Elder, Fort Jackson Garrison Commander, signs an Army Emergency Relief check for $299,087.96 May 29 at his office .The funds are donated by and used to assist Soldiers and Families with scholarships, grants interest-free loans in times of need such as emergency travel, minor home repairs, and health care expenses. Since its founding in 1942, AER has provided more than $1.8 billion to over 3.7 million Soldiers and Families in interest-free loans and grants.
