FORT DRUM, N.Y. (May 11, 2018) -- The Fort Drum Army Community Services hosted the annual Military Spouse Appreciation Picnic at Remington Park on May 11, and dozens of Families attended for the free food, entertainment and good company. The first 300 spouses received complimentary gift bags, and attendees could pick up informational material from ACS and community organizations at several booths.
"This is a chance for the community to honor military spouses," said Catherine Ferran, ACS chief. "It's not just ACS but the whole Fort Drum community that appreciate what our military spouses do."
Ferran said that since the event was moved to Remington Park for the past four year, attendance has grown.
"This particular venue seems to work well for Fort Drum," she said. "And after the winters that we have, it's so nice to have a party outside."
The party at the park included bounce houses and a rock climbing wall, and attendees could snack on sno-cones and popcorns along with the hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch.
"When you have all this great food and the music that creates a real positive vibe for the people, said Elijah Tezeno, ACS Outreach Program coordinator. "And then by grabbing the information at the booths, they can also learn about our programs that support military spouses."
