TOOELE ARMY DEPOT, Utah - As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the Department of Defense (DoD) announced that Tooele Army Depot (TEAD) is scheduled to receive approximately $4 million for construction, safety and energy efficiency projects.

Authorized projects for TEAD include minor family housing repairs, repairing fire suppression systems, installing solar walls on 14 buildings and completing road repairs.

"The funding in the Recovery Act will help provide needed jobs in Tooele County and the State," said Colonel Yolanda Dennis-Lowman, TEAD commander. "As a member of the local community and the state of Utah, we are proud to be part of the effort that will help our economy recover during these hard times."

In addition to providing much needed facility improvements, the Recovery Act also provides more funding to achieve higher levels of energy efficiency and enhance important energy research programs so that the DoD can continue to lead the way in the national effort to achieve greater energy independence.

Depot officials intend to move aggressively on these projects to gain maximum job impact and complete upgrades to aging facilities. At the same time, the Depot will ensure a high level of responsibility in the deployment of these taxpayer dollars.

"The funds provided to TEAD not only help create jobs locally, but provide much needed infrastructure upgrades," said Colonel Dennis-Lowman. "We are ready to play a role in helping our local economy and the state of Utah as part of this plan."

Tooele's existing mission provides core capabilities in logisitcs and engineering which translate into readiness, responsiveness and speed for other applications. The continuous improvement culture results in increased efficiency and reduced cycle times. This, in combination with the dedicatino and versatility of the workforce, positions the depot for new challenges and expanded missions.
