Taste of Pulaski County to go 'Totally 80s' March 24 in St. Robert

By Matt Decker (Leonard Wood)March 15, 2018

You can sample foods from local restaurants, bid for bargains on a variety of items and party like they did back in the days when mullet hairstyles, Rubik's Cubes and Walkmans were all the rage from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 24, during a "Totally 80s" version of the annual Taste of Pulaski County and Basket Auction.

Held each year by the Waynesville Area Chamber of Commerce at the St. Robert community Center, the event gives local restaurants an opportunity to showcase their menu items before a live auction of baskets put together by local businesses.

"The community center will be decked out in 80s-type stuff," explained Leanna Weathers, chamber office manager. "Of course, we also encourage all our volunteers and people in the community to arrive dressed according to the theme."

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 12 and free for children ages 4 and younger. Advance tickets are on sale at the chamber office, located at 137 St. Robert Blvd. in the lower level of the Pulaski Visitor Center.

Among the restaurants scheduled to participate is Fort Leonard Wood Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, which will have offerings from the Pershing Community Center menu on hand. "They're going to showcase their catering," Weathers said.

Other participants include Vidie's Catering, the Uranus Fudge Factory, TK's Pizza, Starbucks, the Ozark Coca Cola/Dr. Pepper Bottling Company, Little Caesars, Domino's and Colton's Steak House and Grill.

Menu items will be available when the doors open at 11 a.m.

A live auction of the themed baskets will begin at 11:30 a.m. This year's baskets feature a variety of items, from food to gifts to gift certificates, ticket packages and more. Many have an 80s theme, Weathers said.

"We even have a leopard print chair," Weathers said.

Door prizes will be given away throughout the event, including as attendees come through the door.
