Army Campaign Plan for Health Promotion, Risk Reduction and Suicide Prevention

What is it'

The Army's new Campaign Plan for Health Promotion, Risk Reduction and Suicide Prevention will seek to make rapid improvements in the Army's existing health promotion and risk reduction programs, systems, and processes with a goal of reducing suicides and improving the mental, physical and spiritual health of the Army community. The Campaign Plan will be implemented by the Army Vice Chief of StaffAca,!a,,cs Suicide Prevention Council which is comprised of representatives from

across the Army staff. In support of the overall campaign plan, the Army Suicide Prevention Council will be empowered to review Army doctrine, organization, training, material, leadership, personnel and facilities that are connected to health promotion, risk reduction and suicide prevention to ensure the Army is optimizing its resources to promote Army wellness.

What has the Army done'

The Army has many programs dedicated both to health promotion, risk reduction and suicide prevention. From the current Suicide Stand-Down and Chain Teach to the establishment of the Army Suicide Prevention Task Force, to increases in behavioral health resources, the Army is engaged in a service-wide effort to combat the rise in suicides within its ranks. The Army Campaign Plan for Health Promotion, Risk Reduction and Suicide Prevention is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary effort to analyze and improve our current programs to ensure they're focused, coordinated and effective.

Why is this important to the Army'

Reducing the incidence of suicide within the Army requires a holistic approach to improving the physical, mental and spiritual health of our Soldiers, families and civilians. Focusing on the resiliency and life-coping skills of our Army family will not only lower suicide rates, it will enhance the quality of life for our entire Army community.
