Yolanda Adams blesses Warrior Country during concert

CASEY GARRISON - Gospel sensation Yolanda Adams came to entertain Warrior Country Soldiers and Family members with a concert at the USAG-Casey Hanson Field House, April 18. The show was the second of the four Adams performed during her tour in Korea.

Adams opened the show immediately thanking Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation for inviting her to perform in Korea and to the Soldiers stationed in Korea.

"Thank you for all the work you do and for the work that people do not know you do," Adams said.

"The purpose is to encourage the Soldiers and their Families and to thank them for all the work they do and to be a blessing because when you touch a person's heart it speaks volumes," Adams said.

At the conclusion of the show, Adams was presented with a plaque from Cpt. Tony Hampton, 2nd Infantry Division Squadron Chaplain, in appreciation for coming to Warrior Country. Seeing that the show was near the end, Hampton brought his 8-year old daughter, Hadassah, to the stage for a song request.

"This is Warrior Country and it would only be fitting to have 'Victory' played for the Warriors out there because we need one," Adams said as the band started the 2006 Grammy winning song for best gospel performance "Victory."

Adams is going to Detroit. next starting her tour in support of nutritional awareness. Adams is currently hosting a morning radio show and is working with dermatologists on a few skin products, in light of her niece and nephew who have eczema; to help treat children. When asked about her musical career, Adams says she is not finished, and is currently working on another album to be released in the near future.

"God has been good to me, God has been really good to me," Adams said. "God blessed me (with the ability to sing) and I sing about his praises and the positive things in life compared to other artists singing. If you look at the some of the top R&B songs they are so depressing, and I just want to remind you all that life is beautiful and I just want to sing about how beautiful God created you."

Yolanda Adams hails from Houston, and pursued a musical career in 1987 with her first album "Just as I am," which hit the Billboard charts for Best Gospel Albums at No. 8.. Adams continued singing her message of God's love by putting out 11 more albums with four taking place on the Best Gospel Album at No. 1. In 1999, Adams was recognized for the Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album by the Grammy's, and in her career has won a total of four Grammy's as well as four Dove awards, three BET soul awards and seven NCAAP Image awards.
