AMBERG, Germany - Members of the 1st Squadron, 2d Cavalry Regiment and their spouses congregated at the Amberg Congress Centrum for an evening of camaraderie and reflection on their accomplishments. Serving as an opportunity to enjoy each other's company in a relaxed setting, the ball provided a well-deserved break from the soldiers' hectic training schedule.

"I think the ball went very well," said 2nd Lt. Caleb Grow, Assistant S-3, 1/2CR. "After months of hard work and planning, it was definitely rewarding to see everything come together. Everyone who went had a great time."

The evening's value was heightened by the presence of representatives from our NATO Allies. Three

Czech soldiers from the 7th Mechanized Infantry Brigade, one British soldier from the 1st Queen's

Dragoon Guard and 14 German soldiers from the Panzer Grenadier Battalion 112 attended the ball.

Capt. Marian Riediger from the German military praised the event as an opportunity to learn about

American military customs and to strengthen the units' relationship.

"The military ball was excellent, organized and an impressive event," said Riediger. "I really like the

mixture of military ceremonies at the beginning, very dignified and the relaxed and rollicked celebration afterwards. For us, it's important to associate with our partners, and it's an honor for us to attend such events."

Grow acknowledged the importance of inviting and intermingling with our foreign partners.

"I think anytime you have the opportunity to join your German and Czech counterparts for a social

function is greatly beneficial to building a stronger relationship," said Grow. "I had a lot of fun talking

with them and learning about their cultures."

From the ceremonial traditions, to the delicious dinner that was served and the dancing into the late night, the Squadron ball hosted by 1/2CR was a successful event and an enjoyable evening.
