ANSBACH, Germany - Colonel Benjamin Jones, Commander, U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach (USAG Ansbach), and Command Sgt, Maj. Philson Tavernier welcomed to the Ansbach garrison 53 members of the 678th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, South Carolina Army National Guard, March 1, 2018 in the garrison's Von Steuben Community Center on Bismark Kaserne.
The Soldiers from the unit, headquartered in Eastover, South Carolina, came to Ansbach in support of U.S. Army Europe to work with the 10th Army Air Missile Defense Command for Operation Atlantic Resolve. Based in Ansbach the 678th will be working with U.S. and NATO service members in Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Germany.
The 678th Soldiers have the distinction of being the first U.S. Air Defense Artillery Brigade to arrive in Europe since the end of the cold war and will call Ansbach home during their deployment.
"We are committed to making your rotation with us as productive and pleasant as possible." Our USAG Ansbach mission is to provide the support you need so you can concentrate on your mission." said Jones.
Garrison and community representatives from FMWR, banking, MEDDAC, the Garrison Education Center and others were set up in an adjacent room of the Von Steuben to share information, answer Soldiers questions - a practical 'One-Stop Info Shop' to make the transition from CONUS to OCONUS as easy as possible for the newcomers.
Jones encouraged the 678th Soldiers to be mindful of overseas force protection procedures, German customs and laws, as well as to avail themselves of community resources and support during their free time. "Welcome to Germany. We're glad to have you with us and my staff and I are here for you 24/7."
