FORT HOOD, Texas. -- Soldiers throughout the Army have a plethora of supplies and equipment at their fingertips. Everything they need, from chow to mission essentials are there for them to complete their mission.
The Soldiers of the 538th Movement Control Team, 451st Expeditionary Sustainment Command prepared to deploy to the United State Central Command area of operations, here Feb. 19-22, 2018. The U.S. Army Reserve unit, from Manhattan, Kansas is mobilizing in support of Operation Spartan Shield.
These Soldiers work behind the scenes to ensure the seamless movement of supplies and materials.
"Some of the essential tasks included in their mission readiness exercise was conducting container operations, in transit visibility, managing cargo movements and regulating movements along supply routes," said Capt. Brandon Geary a logistics officer and observer coach trainer, with the 1st Regiment, 393rd Brigade support Battalion, 120th Infantry Brigade.
The 538th MCT completed its MRX at the Fort Hood centralized receiving and shipping point.
"We began with a transportation movement request, this told us what we needed to move, when and how to move it," said Sgt. 1st Class Alicia Cropp, the noncommissioned officer in charge, with the 538th MCT, 451st ESC. "From there, the Soldiers followed the process of receiving, scanning, warehousing and otherwise prepping supplies for their final destination.
The 1-393rd 'Battle Born' BSB crafted a relevant exercise for the 20 movement control specialists.
"We knew four months out what the MRX would be day-by-day and hour-by-hour. We encouraged Soldiers to adapt to a changing, real world mission," said Sgt. 1st Class Victor Diaz, a military police officer and OC/T, with the 1-393rd BSB, 120th Inf. "This MCT worked well together as a team."
The majority of the Soldiers in the 538th MCT, 16 out of 20, are E-5 and below.
"The hardest part for me was standing back and letting them work, watching them in action, I'm usually very hands on," stated Cropp.
While down range the unit will be in various location in the CENTCOM AO.
Capt. Ben Kirish, 538th's commander stated, "We will simultaneously be covering multiple missions and I'm confident my team will adaptable and be up to the challenge.
