In an effort to increase access to veterinary care and community convenience, the Vicenza Veterinary Treatment Facility held its first weekend clinic Jan. 6.

Veterinary clinic personnel welcomed 22 four-legged patients from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for wellness and sick call appointments.

According to VTF officials, offering appointments on Saturdays allows members of the community to attend to the health of their pets at a more convenient time.

The Vicenza Veterinary Treatment Facility is located approximately 15 minutes away from the main post on Caserma Ederle, which can be challenging for many families to schedule enough time off during the work week.

Vicenza veterinary staff shared that client feedback was overwhelmingly positive and supportive of holding future weekend clinics. Clients appreciated the convenience of the Saturday clinic, not having to take time off during the work week, and ease of transportation coordination.

"We will always show up for Saturday hours," said pet owner Melba Houart. "They are so convenient since we live near Ederle and work on Del Din. Great success."

Capt. Jennifer Silvers, Vicenza Branch officer in charge, elaborated that, "We are listening to the community's needs and are adjusting our appointment system to better serve the Vicenza community."

The veterinary facility is planning on holding future Saturday clinics hours with dates to be announced. Additionally, the clinic piloted adjusted hours during the week of Jan. 22-26 to allow for appointments during the lunch hour and later in the afternoon to accommodate clients' schedules.

To further to enhance convenience for its customers, the Vicenza Veterinary Treatment Facility has recently implemented a "Book Now" feature on their Facebook page, allowing clients to request an appointment for their pet on the clinic's Facebook page, as well as receive reminders via Facebook Messenger.

Construction is underway for the Veterinary Treatment Facility to move into its new location on Caserma Ederle in the U.S. Army Health Clinic later this year. Although the veterinary clinic will be located within the same building as the Vicenza Army Health Center, the veterinary clinic will have a separate entrance, dedicated pet relief area, and separate client parking area.

The Vicenza veterinary clinic is currently taking appointments. Please remember to contact the clinic early when planning for your PCS/ETS and learn how to obtain your pet's European Union pet passport.
