VICENZA, Italy -- In an effort to increase access to care, the Vicenza Veterinary Treatment Facility in Longare held its first weekend clinic hours on a Saturday.
The clinic was open Jan. 6 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for wellness and sick call appointments, thus providing services to 22 patients outside of the regular workweek.
The Vicenza Military Community has been extremely supportive of these trial hours, according to those who led the effort. Because the VTF is located in Longare, it sometimes difficult for some residents to reach the clinic during normal operating hours; offering appointments on Saturdays allows members of the community to attend to the health of their pets during a more convenient time.
The veterinary facility is planning on holding Saturday clinic hours in the future with dates to be announced. To continue to increase access to care for clients, the clinic also offered a trial period of later hours this week, Jan. 22-26. The clinic was open 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. This allowed for appointments during the lunch hour and later in the afternoon to accommodate clients' schedules.
The Vicenza Veterinary Treatment Facility will be moving to its new location on Caserma Ederle in the U.S. Army Health Center-Vicenza this summer; the new location is currently under construction. The vet will be located within the same building as the health center but will have a separate entrance, dedicated pet relief area, and client parking area.
