VICENZA, Italy -- A lapse in appropriations before the Jan. 19 deadline has forced portions of the government to close, including some services provided by the garrison and its installations at Vicenza and Camp Darby.
Only operations and activities essential to life, health and safety -- as well as the protection of our national security -- are exempted from shutting down. This means that some garrison services may be limited, reduced or closed.
The commissary, all AAFES facilities, childcare services, the health clinics, fitness centers, dining facilities (DFACs), shuttle services and the DoDEA elementary, middle and high schools will remain operating during normal hours.
The shutdown should have an impact on Soldiers, employees and families PCSing and transitioning out of Italy, though through delays in wait times.

Here is a list of garrison services affected by the shutdown. This list is subject to change based on manpower and resource availability. Unless otherwise noted, hours listed apply to all USAG Italy installations.
