DAVENPORT, Iowa -- During a ceremony hosted by Gen. Gus F. Perna, commander, Army Materiel Command, Heidi J. Hoyle was promoted to the rank of brigadier general in front of Joint Munitions Command staff, family and friends, at Modern Woodmen Park, Jan. 11.

In the rank of colonel, Hoyle assumed the duties of Commander of Joint Munitions and Lethality Life Cycle Management Command and the Joint Munitions Command on July 18, 2017, during a ceremony held at the Rock Island Arsenal.

"We pick officers not for what they've done," said Gen. Perna, "but for the potential we believe they have." He noted that promotion to Brigadier General is very selective.

"Heidi Hoyle is committed in our profession, she is confident in our profession, and she is of the highest character. That's why we are promoting her to brigadier general," Gen. Perna added.

Brig. Gen. Hoyle is a native of Bay City, Mich., and was commissioned as an Ordnance Officer following her graduation from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N. Y., in 1994. Hoyle attended the Army Basic Course at Fort McClellan, Ala. and then moved to Hanau, Germany, for her first assignment as the Battalion Chemical Officer. She has served in many logistics, command and staff positions during her 24-year career.

The JM&L LCMC brings together the resources and expertise of its three component organizations: the Program Executive Office Ammunition, the Joint Munitions Command and the Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center. It oversees a nationwide network of installations and facilities that produce and store conventional ammunition under the direction of JMC.

"Thank you for giving me the opportunity at the best job in the world," said Brig. Gen. Hoyle. "I love being a Soldier. It's not a job, it's a profession." Hoyle thanked all the family, friends, co-workers, West Point classmates and mentors who helped her during her life and career.

Following the promotion ceremony, guests congratulated Brig. Gen. Hoyle in a formal receiving line. Cake, appetizers and refreshments were served during a brief reception.

The JM&L LCMC is co-located at Picatinny Arsenal, N. J., and Rock Island Arsenal, Ill. The JM&L LCMC and JMC executes integrated life cycle management and provides ready, reliable, and lethal munitions at the right place and right time to sustain global operations. With the promotion, Hoyle becomes the commanding general of both Army organizations.
