19th Engineer Battalion hosts NCO induction ceremony

Noncommissioned officers from 19th Engineer Battalion were joined by those from 34th Military Police Detachment, 905th Military Police Detachment, and U.S. Army Cadet Command, at the third semi-annual Noncommissioned Officer Induction Ceremony at Olive Theater Nov. 21, hosted by 19th.

Altogether, 42 newly promoted sergeants were inducted, marking a career milestone for these enlisted Soldiers.

As the next generation of Army leaders, the inductees were charged with the responsibility to mentor, train and safeguard the welfare of Soldiers, apparent during the Soldiers' request and NCO response portion of the ceremony.

Command Sgt. Maj. Llirenelli Mari, command sergeant major of 19th, served as the guest speaker for the ceremony. She spoke about the value and importance of NCOs as the backbone of the Army.

"We are the safeguards of every mission of the organization and to ensure each mission, each task, and each action is accomplished by teaching, coaching and mentoring our Soldiers, and by instilling a sense of unity, purpose, good order and discipline," Mari said.

Each NCO walked through the battalion's NCO arch and was welcomed by their respective company representative as well as Mari. A recitation of the NCO Charge followed, in which the new sergeants accepted responsibility for their new role and for their Soldiers.

Members of the color guard wore uniforms from key eras of the Army's history, beginning from the American Revolution.

The ceremony also featured a recitation of the NCO Creed and concluded with a cake cutting ceremony

participated in by Mari as well as the youngest NCO and the most recently promoted one.
