WIESBADEN, Germany - U.S. Army Europe Commander, Lt. Gen. Frederick "Ben" Hodges visited German schools to promote German leadership, to earn the trust of Germany's current and future leaders and thank Germany for the being the invaluable Host Nation ally that it is.
Hodges, at all of these locations over the past 4 weeks, has reached out to young and old, to students and government officials, to groups as large as 250 and those as small as 10; all in an effort to explain the mission of U.S. Army forces in Europe.
Each visit and event had been planned and organized by the U.S. Army Europe Host Nation Relations team. The Director of European Host Nation Relations stated, "Lt. Gen. Hodges sincerely believes that the relationship between the United States and Germany is the most important in the world. He therefore impressively seeks to earn the trust and understanding of the German public every day in every conceivable forum."
Hodges visited an International High School in Munich, at the German-American George C. Marshall Center for Security Studies in Garmisch, at Heidelberg's University, at the Berlin Security Conference with young Atlantacists, at the German Army headquarters in Strausberg,
