2017 Christmas & Winter markets, fairs and events in Tuscany

Starting at the middle of November, many Christmas markets open their gates in Italy. Here is a list of Christmas markets and other events happening in Tuscany (events are listed by town in alphabetical order):

Arcidosso (Grosseto)

Antico Villaggio del Natale

Christmas Antique Village

Dec. 8-10, Dec. 16-17, Dec. 22-24, Dec. 30-31, Jan. 1, and Jan. 5-6. Christmas market, Santa Claus house, traditional games factory, Befana house. Ice-skating ring and Christmas carols. Open: 9:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. and 3:30-6:30 p.m. Closed Jan. 1 morning.

Arezzo

Through Jan. 1: Mercatino di Natale e Villaggio Tirolese -Christmas Market and Tyrolean Village in Piazza Grande. Italian, German and Austrian products and gift ideas. Open: Dec. 1-3, Dec. 7-10,

Chianciano (Siena)

Through Dec. 26: Paese di Babbo Natale -Santa Claus Town. Christmas market, bounce houses, workshops and entertainment for children in Piazza Martiri Perugini. Entrance fee: €9; free for children younger than 2. Open: Saturdays-Sundays, Dec. 8-9, and Dec. 26, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Chiusi della Verna (Arezzo)

Dec. 8-10 and Dec. 24-27: in Piazza Martiri della Libertà; wooden booths feature a wide variety of Christmas items, hot chocolate, vin brulè (mulled wine); roasted chestnut and other local specialties. Open: 11 a.m.-9 p.m.

Cortona (Arezzo)

Dec. 8-10, Dec. 15-17, Dec. 21-Jan. 1: Christmas market in Piazza Signorelli and Piazza Garibaldi; food booths feature holiday specialties; entertainment for children with Santa Claus. Open: Dec. 8, 10 a.m.-midnight; Dec. 9-10, Dec. 15-17, Dec. 21, Dec. 23-24, Dec. 26-30, Jan. 1, Jan. 5, and Jan. 7, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.; Dec. 22 and Jan. 6. 11 a.m.-midnight; Dec. 25, 3-8 p.m.

Dec. 17, Fieroculina -Christmas market in Piazza Santo Spirito. Open: 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

Christmas Fair

Dec. 2-20: Christmas market in Piazza Garibaldi; entertainment for children; open until midnight Dec. 9. Open: 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Fucecchio (Florence)

Dec. 3-Jan.6: Natalia -- Christmas market in Piazza XX Settembre, Piazza Vittorio Veneto, and Piazza la Vergine; creative workshops and entertainment for children; Christmas parades with Santa Claus and his elves, magic shows; face-painting; Christmas tavern featuring holiday specialties opens at 12:30 p.m.; Jan. 6 Befana's flight at 5 p.m. The Befana is an old woman who delivers gifts to children throughout Italy on Epiphany Eve (the night of January 5) in a similar way to St. Nicholas or Santa Claus. Open: Dec. 3, Dec. 8, Dec. 10, and Dec. 17. 10:30 a.m. -7:30 p.m.; grand opening on Dec. 3 at 11:45.

Livorno

Nov. 25-Jan. 6: at Villa Mimbelli, Via San Jacopo Acqua Viva 63. Christmas Village with Santa Claus, elves market, workshops and games for children. Free entrance. Open: On Dec. 8-9, Dec. 16-17, Dec. 20-23, Dec. 28-30, and Jan. 3-6, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Dec. 24, Dec. 1, Dec. 15, 3-7 p.m.

Dec. 13-22: in Piazza Cavour; Christmas market and, starting at 4 p.m., entertainment for children with holiday workshops and Santa Claus with his elves. Open: 9 a.m.-8 p.m.

Montecatini Terme (Pistoia)

Nov. 11- Dec. 21: La Casa di Babbo Natale - Santa Claus Village, on Viale Verdi, Santa Claus and elves' Village at the Terme Tamerici Castle; Christmas ornaments workshops for children, pony rides, food booths. Entrance fee: €13; reduced €12 for children younger than 12. Open: open Fridays-Sundays; Dec. 22-Jan. 6, open daily; 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Montepulciano (Siena)

Nov. 25-Jan. 7: Visit the Christmas Village in Piazza Grande, Piazzetta Danesi and Via San Donato; games, workshops, food booths, and entertainment for children. Open: On Nov. 25-26, Dec. 2-3, Dec. 7-10, Dec. 15-17, Dec. 22 - Jan 7, 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m.; Dec. 25, 3:30-7 p.m.

Palazzuolo Sul Senio (Florence)

Dec. 3, Dec. 8, Dec. 10, and Dec. 17: Christmas market, food booths featuring vin brulè (hot spiced wine), polenta, tortellini with chestnuts, and many more local specialties; Santa Claus hut where children can deliver their requests for presents. Open: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Pisa

Dec. 8-10: La Fabbrica di Babbo Natale-Santa Claus Workshop, at Arsenali Repubblicani, Via Bonanno Pisano 2. Visit Christmas magic world with a great variety of holiday gifts, workshops for children and bounce houses. Open: 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Pietrasanta (Lucca)

Nov. 18-Jan.1: in Parco La Versiliana, Viale E. Morin 16; Christmas market, elves' village; pictures with Santa Claus; workshop for children; face-painting; entrance fee: €.10. Open Fridays-Sundays, 10 a.m.-6:45 p.m.

San Giovanni Valdarno (Arezzo)
