The Better Opportunities for Single Service members program held a ribbon cutting ceremony Nov. 2, officially opening their new facility, BOSS Corner, located at Bldg. 496 off of Constitution and Replacement avenues.

According to Command Sgt. Maj. Larry Orvis, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Leonard Wood command sergeant major and BOSS advisor, getting the building ready to open took approximately two months with nearly all work done by BOSS members.

Sgt. Paville Simpson, BOSS president, said although they have the bare necessities in the building at the current time, "great" items will be coming to the BOSS Corner within the next few months as their requests for additional items start filtering in from the Installation Management Command headquarters.

"BOSS Corner now gives the single service members of Fort Leonard Wood the capability to plan, meet and interact with each other," Simpson said. "Above all else it is a place where they can have fun."

This new location puts members in close proximity to many amenities.

"BOSS Corner is an optimum location for Fort Leonard Wood single service members. It's near their barracks, near the education center, near the Soldier for Life Center, numerous eateries and the Post Exchange," Orvis said. "This is a great enabler, allowing members to enhance their quality of life, contribute to the community and plan and execute their own events."

Simpson said BOSS monthly meetings will now be held at BOSS Corner along with other upcoming events.

"We do appreciate the help the USO has given the BOSS community over the years when we did not have a facility to conduct our meetings. But now that we have BOSS Corner, our meetings will be held here monthly," Simpson said. "We are planning to hold our Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday luncheons (at the new location), and we invite all single service members of Fort Leonard Wood, regardless of branch of service or component, to come out. Even though we are an Army program, we welcome all services."

Sergeant Major of the Army Daniel Dailey, who was visiting the installation at the time, assisted with the ribbon cutting and had lunch with the members at the new facility.
