ROCK ISLAND, ILL. -- As Col. Heidi J. Hoyle promoted Lt. Col. Stephen P. Case with his new rank patches, she asked, "Do the patches you brought here today hold any sentimental value? If not, I'd like to give you mine from when I was promoted; I see a lot of myself in you." Hoyle continued, "I wanted to give these to someone who exemplifies everything we stand for, and you are that person. These patches may have a little wear on them."

Case was promoted to colonel during a ceremony on October 13 conducted by Hoyle, Commander of Joint Munitions Command. Hoyle began the ceremony by welcoming the Department of the Army teammates in attendance. She then provided a brief biography of Case's career and promoted Case to colonel.

Case is currently assigned as the Officer-in-Charge of the JMC -- Army Reserve Detachment that was established in September 2009 and provides an available, trained, and deployable force for JMC. The detachment offers a proven capability of logistics, operations, planning, joint exercise support, and ammunition mission support. The unit has provided leadership for various munitions missions both stateside and overseas.

After the ceremony, Case said, "I am humbled by so many of my colleagues that came to celebrate my promotion. We work for one of the greatest organizations, filled with great leaders and a great workforce."

Case, a native of Lawrenceville, Georgia, was commissioned into the Armor Branch in 1995 upon his graduation from West Point. He holds a Bachelor of Science in engineering management and a Master of Arts in management and leadership.

Case has held numerous special operations positions stateside and during overseas contingency operations. He reverted back to reserve status in 2006 and worked from the Joint Reserve Intelligence Centers for the Army Reserve while employed as a defense contractor on Redstone Arsenal. Now, he serves as a Department of the Army Civilian for Program Executive Office-Missiles and Space. He completed the Command and General Staff College and Senior Service College while in Reserve status. He was selected for promotion to Colonel in April 2017 and assigned as the Officer-in-Charge of the Joint Munitions Command -- Army Reserve Element.

He has received many awards, including the Combat Action Badge, the Special Forces Combat Badge, and the Joint Commendation Medal, for his service.
