ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. --Larry M. Muzzelo, U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) Deputy to the Commanding General (DCG), Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), Maryland, added credence to the Army's position that 'what senior leaders say and do with regard to sexual harassment and sexual assault set the tone and tenor Army-wide,' during his recent visit to the APG Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Resource Center (RSC).

Muzzelo's boots on the ground visit was an opportunity for him to have an up close and personal conversation with the staff of the SRC on the operation of the center, as well as the skills, talent and support they bring to the CECOM and the Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) community.

Escorted by APG SHARP Program Manager Tracy Marshall, the DCG began his walk through the newly upgraded facility with a stop at the office of the newest member of the SRC team, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Specialist Dr. Michelle Turner. Turner, who in addition to other responsibilities, oversees civilian sexual harassment complaints, who said of the DCG's visit, "It is always a positive sign when a senior leader is actively seeking not only more information on processes and procedures involving EEO matters, but takes a genuine interest in how he can better support the program. That's the type of exemplary leadership that will ensure success."

Other APG staff members on hand to meet and brief the CECOM DCG included Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) Shariese Demby; Jody Jackson, SHARP and EEO Program Manager for the Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC); Nicole Wright, Special Agent APG CID, and Sgt. 1st. Class Anthony Toolin, Equal Opportunity Program Manager, APG.

"Currently, the SRC provides a hub for multiple support agencies and personnel," said Marshall "This includes the Special Victim Counsel, the Judge Advocate General, the Criminal Investigation Division, the Sexual Assault Care Coordinator, Vet Center counseling and APG SHARP. We take what we do here very seriously…understanding the impact sexual assault and harassment can have on the individual and mission readiness."

The sentiments were shared by Muzzelo, who in joining the SRC staff at the round table, took copious notes as they discussed strategic planning goals and objectives, and the way ahead for SHARP and the APG community. "Here at the SRC we're always looking for ways to improve our service operations," said Marshall.

"As you can see from the visit by the CECOM DCG, here at Aberdeen Proving Ground we have the sound support of our senior leadership. What we have to continue to do is ensure that the well-being of our community is always a first and foremost consideration, and that the Warfighter's challenges, great or small, never compromise the Army's readiness capabilities."
