Mr. John Willison assumed the position of Deputy to the Commanding General at RDECOM October, 2017. In his pri-or assignment, he served as Director, Space and Terrestrial Communications Directorate, U.S. Army Communications- Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

As the RDECOM Deputy to the Commanding General, he will provide strategic direction for the organization and serve as a catalyst for research, development and engineering initiatives across the command.

Mr. Willison was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in August 2011.

His first assignment as an SES was from August 2011 to April 2015 as Director, Command, Power & Integration Directorate, U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center, at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

From April 2015 to October 2017, Mr. Willison served as Director, Space and Terrestrial Communications Directorate, U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center, at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

Mr. Willison's prior assignments include: Technical Director, Program Executive Office Communications, Command, and Control Tactical, Project Manager Battle Command, at Fort Monmouth, N.J. from April 2007 to August 2011; Director of the Advanced Battlespace Solutions Directorate, Communications-Electronics Command, Software Engineering Center, Fort Monmouth, from March 2000 to April 2007; Chief of the Architecture & Technology Division, Communications-Electronics Command, Software Engineering Center, Fort Monmouth, from October 1996 to March 2000; Army Project Manager, Joint Army and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Software Technology for Adaptable and Reliable Systems Project, Communications-Electronics Command, Software Engineering Center, Fort Monmouth, from July 1992 to October 1996; Project Engineer, Tactical Systems Engineering Branch, Communications-Electronics Command, Software Engineering Center, Fort Monmouth, from June 1989 to July 1992; and Project Engineer, Standard Army Management Information Systems Branch, Engineering Directorate, Communications-Electronics Command, Fort Monmouth, from October 1986 to June 1989.

Mr. Willison's educational achievements include a Master of Science degree in Software Engineering from Monmouth College, N.J., in 1992; and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Lafayette College, Pa., in 1986. He trained as a Senior Executive Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, in 2006. In February 2017, he completed the Executive Coaching for Organization Well Being program at George Mason University, and he is a certified professional coach.

Mr. Willison has Level III Certification in Systems Engineering in the Army Acquisition Corps.

His awards and honors include: U.S. Army Infantry Association's Order of St. Maurice in 2011; Federal 100 Award in 1996; and Federal Technology Leadership Award in 1995.

Mr. Willison maintains several professional memberships and associations including: New Jersey State Commission on Science & Technology; Association of the United States Army; and Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association.
