Media invited to observe air defense live fire exercise in Crete

The 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command and U.S. Army Europe will host a Media Day on Thurs., Nov. 9 from 7 a.m. to noon for exercise Artemis Strike at the NATO Missile Firing Installation on the island of Crete in Greece.

Over 200 U.S. soldiers and approximately 650 German airmen will be participating in the German-led tactical live fire exercise with live Patriot and Stinger missiles at NAMFI from Oct. 31-Nov. 09, 2017. The exercise is referred to as Artemis Strike by U.S. participants.

Media are invited to observe the live firing of Patriot, Stinger and Avenger missile systems. There will be an opportunity to interview 10th AAMDC commander Col. David Shank and U.S. Army Europe commanding general Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, as well as several soldiers who will be operating the missile systems.

Participation with our allies and partners in exercises such as Artemis Strike furthers our goal to fully integrate air and missile defense operations, which is critical to deterring aggression and protecting U.S. interests and personnel in Europe. It enhances total Army and allied readiness and deters aggression through demonstrating enhanced interoperability with allies that we are "Ready to Fight."

Media who have confirmed attendance to the Artemis Strike Media Day will meet at the main gate of NAMFI Thursday, Nov. 9 at 6:30 a.m.
