CHIÈVRES, Belgium -- U.S. Army Garrison Benelux leaders recognized the workforce during the Quarterly Awards Ceremony Oct. 12.
Col. Kurt Connell, garrison commander for USAG Benelux, presided over the ceremony in Brussels while Tom Joyce, deputy to the garrison commander, gave awards in Chièvres and Chet Witkowski, deputy garrison manager, presented awards in Schinnen.
At the beginning of the ceremony, new team members were introduced. The commander then congratulated all USAG Benelux community members for their hard work and dedication to the various missions throughout the garrison.
In total, 71 awards were presented at the ceremony, including length of service awards, certificates of appreciation, certificates of achievement and achievement medals.
At the end of the event, community members took time to offer their personal congratulations to the award recipients. Connell also thanked everybody for the job well done and encouraged the community to keep up the good work.
TOWN HALL
After the Quarterly Awards Ceremony, the Brussels community hosted a Town Hall in the 3 Star Recreation Center. Community members had the opportunity to meet leadership, representatives from the Delegation to the NATO Military Committee and other organization representatives.
Derrick Hood, deputy garrison manager for Brussels, opened the event. The following speakers answered the audiences' questions: Connell, Rear Adm. Roy I. Kitchener, deputy U.S. military representative to the NATO Military Committee, Army Sgt. 1st Class Timothy Bennett, non-commissioned officer in charge at the Brussels Health Clinic, Lindsay "Monty" Montgomery, manager of the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, or AAFES, Shoppette in Brussels, Collette Tate, principal of the Brussels American School, Kelly Sarles, non-appropriated fund support management chief for Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.
For two hours, the public asked questions on different topics. At the end of the session, Connell spoke about recruitment. "There are 70 job vacancies in MWR," he said. Tate added that the Brussels American School is hiring too.
The audience also spoke about Halloween. "Volunteers are still needed for Trunk or Treat," said Sarles.
