FORT KNOX, Kentucky -- U.S. Army Reservist Col. Joseph Edwards II was promoted to brigadier general in a Sept. 10 ceremony at Godman Army Airfield on Fort Knox.
Edwards earlier this month assumed command of 104th Division (Leader Training), based at Joint Base Lewis- McChord, Washington. He also will serve as deputy commanding general for Reserve Support and Accessions at U.S. Army Cadet Command at Fort Knox.
Edwards lives with his wife and two daughters in Houston and is a B-777 pilot for United Airlines in his civilian occupation. As an Army aviator, he is rated in the UH-1H, OH-58A/C, AH-64A/D, C-12D/V and UC-35A/B.
As host of the event, Maj. Gen. Troy Kok, commander of 99th Regional Support Command, noted Edwards's accomplishment.
"Only .7-percent of officers make it to this rank," Kok said. "This isn't for everyone. This is only for a select few."
"Joe never took a knee," said Kok, referencing Edwards's biography in the program. "Joe is always leading from the front."
Edwards served as deputy chief of staff of operations, at Joint Enabling Capability Command in Norfolk, Virginia (TRANSCOM), during his previous assignment.
Concerning his two new roles, Edwards drew attention to the mission of both.
"Both of them are incredibly important, not only for the United States Army Reserve, but probably more importantly for the United States Army," Edwards said. "We're training the future leaders to lead our nation going forward."
