Parts of Marion Road will be closed starting Saturday to allow crews to repave the road, Fort Jackson officials announced Monday.

"Drivers should expect delays on and around Marion," said Jason Hinton, the USACE Resident Engineer on Fort Jackson. "Detours will be slow due to some areas traversing parking lots and drivers are advised to use parallel streets as much as possible."

Repaving will be completed in phases starting Saturday and ending Dec. 31. Phase 1 will be conducted on Marion Road between Forney Road and the roundabout near Gate 1 until Oct. 31. During Phases 2-4, staring Nov. 1, Marion Road between Forney Road and Kemper Street will be repaved. The ability to cross the road during construction will not be hampered.

Crews will be working during daylight hours so safety is a concern for both drivers and working crews.

Hinton said noise should be somewhat minimal, but "it is imperative that people obey the posted signs as well as the flaggers." Safety is paramount and speed limits will be vehemently enforced.

"We want all of our people to go home at the end of day," he said.
