Several events are scheduled for the day, Earl Higgs, the Fort Knox Outdoor Recreation manger with Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation said. One of those events is the sportsman swap. Vendors can reserve a spot for $10 to trade, sale or buy old hunting equipment, shooting supplies or other outdoor equipment.

The French Shooting Club will also have a free basic archery clinic, Higgs said.

"The clinic will include how to hold, draw and fire a bow," he said.

In the trifecta shoot competition, participants will shoot a shotgun, rifle and pistol for a prize--a year membership to French Shooting Club, said Higgs.

Weapon, targets and ammunition are included in the $10 entry fee. Individuals can also win a frozen turkey. For a $2 entry fee, participants in the turkey shoot can shoot at a target with a club shotgun to try to win the turkey, he said.

Higgs added that there are events planned for children. Children can shoot slingshots at bottles and other targets and every shot that hits a target will win a small prize. The cost is $1 for every 10 shots.

Other events include seminars conducted by Fort Knox's Natural Resource Office on wildlife management as well as other topics and Fort Knox Burgoo.

Food and beverage will be available for purchase. Admission to the event is free and open to the public. Participants should enter through the Chaffee Gate (main) and will need to make sure they have a pass from the Visitor Center if they do not have a military ID, Rhett Mendoza, Fort Knox's Adventure Programs coordinator said.

Last year saw a crowd of about 350 participants.

"It was a good mixture of people new to French Shooting Range and people that go there regularly," Mendoza said.

Fort Knox's French Shooting Range is located at 9333 Main Range Rd. Any privately owned firearms will have to be registered with Fort Knox's Directorate of Emergency Services before they can be brought on Fort Knox.
