PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. - Leaders at Picatinny Arsenal formally unveiled on Aug. 9 a new, hand-crafted carving of an eagle at the installation's visitor control center.
Artists Kenny Scoggins and his wife, Kacie, carved the Liriodendron Tulipifera (Tulip Poplar) tree in honor U.S. service members. The couple is from Mississippi and own a company called Artistry in Wood. They have been the resident carvers at the nearby Sussex County Fair for about 14 years.
The work was done after the tree had sustained damage from termites and was slated to be cut down to avoid falling and causing damage to any nearby infrastructure.
The carving stands about 14 feet tall and took three and a half days to complete.
