The Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 140 presented a monument Monday to recognize those who have earned one of the most respected decorations in the U.S. Armed Forces -- the Purple Heart. The new Purple Heart Monument stands at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Fort Leonard Wood.
Brig. Gen. Donna Martin, U.S. Army Military Police School commandant, and representatives from the surrounding communities attended the unveiling.
"(The Purple Heart) is a measure of recognition for the heavy price that our service members have paid," Martin said during the ceremony. "For those who have completed their service to this great nation, or those that are still serving with this decoration, the United States of America owes you a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid."
