Exchange holding back-to-school specials

It's that time of year again. It's time for parents to shop for new school clothes and some parents may be thinking of how to shop economically.

The Fort Knox Exchange has been holding back-to-school sales since the beginning of July and the sales will continue through Aug. 31.

One of the more prominent sales is 10 clothing outfits for $200.

"(We are) targeting elementary school and middle school kids," explained Chris Showers, the Fort Knox Exchange store manager. "The sale will be as long as we have clothes to sell."

He added that the weekly flyers have coupons for the already low prices for items such as footwear for men, women and children and next month electronic items like computers and tablets will be on sale.

Showers pointed out that school supplies are also on sale. School supplies are currently in the area where pet supplies are located. He added that supplies will be moved to the front of the store the closer it gets to the beginning of the school year.

Another promotion that's exclusive to AAFES' Military Star Card is the back-to-school optical promotion. Customers receive six months no interest and no payments on any Optical Center or Vista Optical Center purchase of $199 or more with the Military Star Card. The promotions run from Aug. 4 through 31.

Showers would like to remind customers about the Exchange's price matching option.

"If you don't have (items) cheaper than our competitors within 50 miles we will price match," he said. "If (the item) is $10 or under we don't verify. If it's over $10 we ask (that) you bring in the flyer."

The Exchange is also sponsoring a back-to-school essay contest for Kingsolver and Van Voorhis Elementary schools in second through fifth grades. The subject for the essay will be "my summer adventure." Essays will be judged during the week of Aug. 14 by the Fort Knox school administration. An awards ceremony will be held at the Fort Knox Exchange the week of Aug. 28.

"Contest prizes will be determined," Showers said. "(We are) buying trophies for the essay winners."
