WIESBADEN, Germany - The U.S. Army Europe Band and Chorus performed their annual German-American friendship concert as part of the Heidelberger Schlossfestspiele (Heidelberg castle music festival), July 18.

Under a brilliant Heidelberg sky, the band and chorus wooed an enthusiastic crowd of more than 800 in the Heidelberg Castle courtyard with performances of "The West Point March," by West Point Bandmaster Philip Egner and compositions by Jacques Offenbach and Copeland as well as a goose bumps rendition of "I'll wait for you." The band ended the evening with a Glenn Miller medley and standing ovations as they performed several encores for a crowd that did not want them to stop playing.

USAREUR was represented by Brig. Gen. Phillip Jolly, Deputy Commanding General for Mobilization and Reserve Affairs, who in his remarks emphasized the importance of this third annual German-American friendship concert and its major role in maintaining and nurturing the close bonds between the U.S. Army and the city of Heidelberg which had been home to USAREUR for over 60 years.

Dr. Wolfgang Erichson, Deputy Mayor of Heidelberg expressed his gratitude for the concert, stressed the importance of good German-American relations and the traditional annual USAREUR friendship concert's part in maintaining close ties with Heidelberg and its citizens. Also in the audience was federal parliamentarian, Professor Dr. Karl Lamers.
