The Fort Knox Army Education Center hosted its second Senior Leader Corporate Fellowship Program-Career Skills Program Graduation June 30 in the conference room at Garrison Command headquarters.
Five service members, who are currently registered in the Soldier For Life-Transition Assistance Program, participated in the cohort from May 8 through June 26. The five Soldiers were Lt. Col. Lenora Young of Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 84th Training Command; retired Master Sgt. Sherry Clark; and Sgts. 1st Class Jason Renaldo Manuel of 1st Battalion, 409th Regiment; Scott Porter of 1st Battalion, 1-410 BEB, 4th Cavalry Brigade; and Jason Himel of 1-410 BEB, 4th Cavarly Brigade.
Young, Himel, Manuel and Porter completed their internships with Trilogy Health Services, while Clark completed an internship with GE Appliances. During her cohort, Clark presented cost-saving measures to leaders at GE Appliances that culminated in an employment offer prior to completion of the program.
The Career Skills Program is a Department of Defense initiative to assist transitioning service members in obtaining employment after leaving the military. These programs include vocational skills training for apprenticeships, on-the-job training, job shadowing, employment skills training and internships. Fort Knox currently has two Career Skills Programs available to service members within 180 days from separation.
The Fort Knox Education Center and Where Opportunity Knox work closely to facilitate the program. The outcome not only provides opportunities for service members, it also builds relations with the installation and surrounding community officials and employers.
Commercial driver's license training is also available as well as a Senior Leader Corporate Fellowship Program.
Transitioning Soldiers are not limited to local programs, there are currently 128 CSPs available across the country. Commanders have the option to approve up to 120 days of permissive temporary duty to attend CSP training.
For more information on CSP programs at other locations, visit the IMCOM CSP website at Caution-https://imcom.army.mil/Organization/G1Personnel/CareerSkillsProgram.aspx.
