Col. David G. Jones returned to the Adjutant General School and became its new commandant July 7, in a ceremony in the Soldier Support Institute auditorium. He succeeded Col. Neal McIntyre as the commandant of the school, the AG Corps and chief of Army music.

Jones left the Human Resources Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky to come back to Fort Jackson where he had previously been a small group instructor for the AG Captain's Career Course, and commander of the 369th AG Battalion.

The transition to a job with many different facets can be daunting.

It can be "confusing at times to know what hat to wear at any given occasion," he said. He reminisced about having to make decisions regarding Army band structures and other AG related tasks.

During his tenure at the school, 5,259 students graduated, and he "helped determine the right size of bands across the force," said Col. John B. McShane, SSI commander.

However difficult it may be Jones in the right person for the position, McIntyre said.

"Welcome back to the AG School," he said. "You are absolutely the right guy for the job."

Jones is a native of Morganton, North Carolina and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the AG Corps through the Reserve Officers' Training Corps at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in May 1993.

His former assignments include Chief, Strength Management Branch, 32nd Army Air Defense Command, United States Army Europe, in Darmstadt, Germany; Chief, Officer Management Branch, 1st Armored Division; and Chief, Officer Management Branch, later Chief, Personnel Operations and Actions Branch, Task Force Eagle, Operation Joint Endeavor in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

I will do my best to continue "the leadership you displayed on a daily basis," Jones said after taking command.

McIntyre's next assignment will be at the Colonel's Management Office at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
