Lt. Col. Steven Gventer, Battle Group Poland commander and also 2nd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment commander, will relinquish both commander roles to Lt. Col. Christopher L'Heureux.
Battle Group Poland is one of four multinational battle groups deployed as a deterrence force in the eastern part of the Alliance in support of NATO's enhanced Forward Presence initiative. The American-led battle group consists of 860 U.S. Soldiers from 2/2; 130 U.K. soldiers from A Squadron, The Light Dragoons, and 120 Romanian soldiers from 205th Air Defense Battalion, 2nd Infantry Brigade.
Gventer led elements of the battle group on a tactical road march from 2/2's home station in Vilseck, Germany to the training base here in April 2017. Integrated with the Polish 15th Mechanized Brigade in Orzysz, Poland, the battle group is ready to "fight tonight" to help ensure the defense of Poland‎.
L'Heureux will lead the battle group until October 2017 when the 3rd Sqaudron, 2d Cavalry Regiment will replace the 2/2. L'Heureux will continue to command the 2/2 when they return to Vilseck.
