WIESBADEN, Germany -- U.S. Army Europe hosted a July 4 retreat ceremony in front of the Keyes Building on Clay Kaserne, June 30.

Command Sgt. Maj. Sheryl Lyon, U.S. Army Europe's senior enlisted advisor, hosted the Independence Day ceremony.

Retreat ceremonies are typically held daily on military installations and is one of the oldest traditions in the U.S. Army, dating back to the Revolutionary War. The ceremony serves two purposes -- to signal the end of the duty day and pay respect to the nation's flag.

In addition to Army Europe and U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden leaders, Soldiers, civilians and family members attended the ceremony.
