With a few strokes of a pen, the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Leonard Wood command team pledged to all Fort Leonard Wood employees and Families that they will fulfill the U.S. Army Installation Management Command Service Culture Initiative.

According to IMCOM, the Service Culture Initiative represents the command's long-term commitment to providing the best possible customer service to Soldiers, Families, and installation communities.

The campaign is based on the premise that excellence in customer service is a result of how an organization treats its employees.

The campaign, publicly launched by Lt. Gen. Kenneth Dahl, IMCOM commanding general, includes a "Leadership Pledge" that serves as a visible symbol and a reminder to leaders that all employees deserve respect and the basic tools needed to be successful. The pledge focuses on providing employees proper on-boarding, performance standards, training opportunities, recognition programs, empowerment and a commitment to hold one another accountable.

"The pledge and the principles defined signify a return to the basics -- Leadership 101. The pledge serves as a reminder of the importance of these ideals and a reaffirmation that we, as leaders, have a responsibility to ensure you are successful," Dahl said at the initial unveiling of the initiative at IMCOM headquarters in San Antonio, Texas.

Col. Tracy Lanier, USAG Fort Leonard Wood commander, said the pledge and the Pledge to Our Customers are two reminders of our "team of teams" focus at Fort Leonard Wood.

"We are the Army's home, and we are responsible for service members, Families, the community and each other," he said.

The Fort Leonard Wood Garrison command team, including Lanier, Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Larry Orvis and Kathy Aydt, deputy garrison commander, signed the pledge Friday.

"Signing the leadership pledge reinforces what it means to be a leader and the leader's responsibility to employees," Lanier said. "Also, signing the leadership pledge in a ceremonious atmosphere with the team in the audience, reaffirms my stance that we are committed to this effort."
