Children ages 7 to 14 will have the opportunity to visit and work out alongside Kansas City Chiefs employees, cheerleaders, alumni and mascot K.C. Wolf during the NFL Play 60 event, scheduled for 11 a.m. June 30 at Fort Leonard Wood's Gerlach Field.

Jointly sponsored by the post, the Chiefs and Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, the free event will encourage young participants to be active for 60 minutes, which is the goal of the NFL Play 60 campaign.

"It's an hour-long event," explained Eli Wilson, FMWR Community Activities manager. "Basically, participants will come in and do a stretch and warm-up session. Then they can go to different stations -- they have about 10 different activities that kids can take part in."

Participants can rotate from station to station, which will let them test and practice a number of fundamental football skills, including throwing, kicking, jumping, running and more.

Although geared toward the 7-to-14 age range, the event is open to all Fort Leonard Wood children. For children younger than 7, parents are encouraged to use their child's ability level as a guide.

"It's open to all ages," Wilson said. "Obviously, if a 5-year-old comes out and is active or capable of doing the activities, they're welcome to do so. There's a little flexibility there."

All participants must complete two forms prior to the event: a photo-release form and a waiver of liability form. Links to both forms in PDF format are available on the FMWR website at https://leonardwood.armymwr.com/calendar/event/nfl-play-60/1092716.

"They can download, sign and print those forms at home ahead of time, and we will also have them available the day of the event," Wilson said. "We will start checking in and registering (participants) at 10:30 a.m. My advice would be, if you need to fill out a form, be there at 10:30 a.m."

This will be the third Play 60 event Fort Leonard Wood has hosted, but the first event in conjunction with the Kansas City Chiefs. The post held similar events with the then-St. Louis Rams in 2014 and 2015.
