GAUDYNEK, Poland-Men and women from around the area form their teams and start shooting at a competition during "Dzien Weteranów," Polish Veterans Day. Battle Group Poland sent a team from the U.S., U.K. and Romania to see who was the better shot with the Polish P-83 pistol and Beryl assault rifle.
The shooting competition helped the battle group understand how their partner's weapons work and how to use them should they need to. As the battle group soldiers finished shooting the host nation's weapons, they compared the P-83 and Beryl to their respective nation's weapon.
U.S. Army Sgt. Ian Vincent compared the M9 to the P-83 as "more compacted, easier to shoot, but carries less rounds," and the M4 to the kbs Beryl, "same recoil, but real fun to shoot, and easy weapon to learn."
The battle group's U.K. soldiers are used to shooting the SA 80 assault rifle and Glock pistol.
When asked about the comparison to the Polish weapons, Lance Corporal Brad Hampson stated that the Glock is "not as comfortable, the pistol is too small." Comparing the SA 80 to the kbs Beryl, he said there was a lot of similarity, the only difference being the trigger was easier to pull.
The Romanians compared the Polish weapon to their new 5.56x45mm service rifle and 9mm Parabellum pistol.
Battle Group Poland Romanian soldier, Cpl. Panduru Ionyt, said that the weapons are pretty similar, that they have the same root model, AK 47. "There is not so many differences. The Polish pistol is newer, but I still prefer our," Panduru said, adding that he would prefer a Romanian weapon instead of the Polish since it is too light.
