Birthday Bash: Fort Jackson marks a century of service

Happy birthday to Fort Jackson!

For 100 years, this installation has served as a training facility for the U.S. Army.

Tomorrow is the installation's big day.

In celebration of a century of supporting and uplifting the Army values, the Fort Jackson community will be hosting events all over post. Here's a preview of what to expect for events around post.

Today

Fort Jackson Centennial Lecture Series

3-4 p.m., Fort Jackson NCO Club.

This is the final lecture on "Looking to the Future." Previous lectures featured the history of the installation's development, the creation of the Drill Sergeants School, and integrating women and minorities on post.

Tomorrow

Cake Cutting

9:30 a.m., Fort Jackson Golf Club

Golf Tournament

10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Fort Jackson Golf Club.

Cost: Members $45 a person, non-members $60 a person. Open to all golfers (four-person team). To

register for the Centennial golf tournament a completed Entry form must be submitted with payment. For more information call the Fort Jackson Golf Shop at 803-787-4437

Birthday Party

11:30 a.m., Solomon Center.

Cost: Free. Open to the entire Family. Join Fort Jackson's 282nd Army Band as they celebrate the birthday of the installation.

Saturday

Centennial Concert

5:30 to 10 p.m., Hilton Field

Hunter Hayes and Kellie Pickler are the headliners taking the big stage on Hilton Field at 7 p.m. This birthday bash will include free rides for children as well as food and beverages for sale. The Golden Knights Parachute Demonstration Team will jump onto the field between 6 and 6:30 p.m. There will also be a firework display at 9:30 p.m.

June 8

After completing 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training the centennial battalion takes to Hilton Field for graduation.
