It was all about safety for Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center employees recently during the Fort Hood hospital's summer safety fair. A record crowd of more than 750 CRDAMC employees attended the May 18 event.

Held in the parking garage basement, the event included demonstrations in fire extinguisher use, boating and motor cycle safety, life-jacket use, proper child seat positioning, skin-cancer detection, animal and reptile safety and awareness, hearing safety and emergency preparedness in the home. Twenty-five vendors, representing CRDAMC, Fort Hood, and community organizations participated in the three-hour event.

"The participation level far exceeds our expectation," said Capt. Jennifer Noetzel, deputy chief, Army Hearing Program, Preventive Medicine. "It was great that so many people came out to participate."

The purpose of the event, which was sponsored by CRDAMC's Troop Command, was to educate and train CRDAMC employees on summer safety dangers and accident prevention.

"Heat, fireworks, swimming, boating and barbeques are what we all associate with summer, "said Noetzel. "These activities also result in the bulk of summer accidents. We wanted to remind our employees and their families to stay safe by offering tips on accident prevention."

The event was so successful that Troop command organizers are already planning for a winter safety extravaganza.
