The Maneuver Support Center of Excellence hosted the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command's quarterly commander's forum, May 8 through 10.
During the session, general officers, members of the senior executive service and command sergeants major from across TRADOC gathered in the heart of America to discuss command-wide challenges and initiatives spanning current training and leader development to future capabilities, organizations and systems.
As the host installation, Fort Leonard Wood had the opportunity to inform Army senior leaders about the recently signed TRADOC Pamphlet 525-3-5, The U.S. Army Functional Concept for Maneuver Support, through site visits across the post.
In observing one-of-a-kind facilities and courses here, leaders noted the unique maneuver support skills and tools developed and trained.
"It was an honor for our team to host the Combined Arms Center Commander's Senior Leader Forum and the TRADOC Commander's Forum," said Maj. Gen. Kent Savre, MSCoE Commanding General. "Our goal was to make this a first-class event that both enabled the TRADOC Commander to execute his forum and that enabled us to tell our story. We definitely accomplished that goal, thanks to our great team."
Senior leaders toured the 1LT Joseph Terry Chemical Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Training Facility, where they observed CBRN first-responder training and discussed CBRN-related university partnerships.
At the U.S. Army Military Police School Brig. Gen. David H. Stem Village, guests observed corrections and other military police training, discussed upgrades to equipment and came away understanding the "unique" role that Military Police play conducting policing operations at posts, camps and outstations, as well as supporting decisive action with special-reaction teams, and protective services.
Both training facilities reflect the joint nature of Fort Leonard Wood with courses supporting Active Duty, reserve and National Guard Soldiers, and also supporting service members from the Marines, Navy and Air Force.
"Fort Leonard Wood is a gem of a post with a diverse portfolio," said Lt. Gen. Sean MacFarland, TRADOC deputy commanding general and chief of staff. "There is a wide array of training everywhere you look, and it's not just Army, but joint, as well."
Last, commanders observed bridging operations and gap crossing capabilities at U.S. Army Engineer School Training Area 250.
Engineer school leadership discussed modernization and upgrades to current engineer vehicles and systems, efforts to support evolving bridging and gap-crossing requirements and strategies for terrain shaping in current and future environments.
"It's evident that there is a strong team here doing a fantastic job," MacFarland said. "They are balancing a diverse mission set very well."
To provide TRADOC's leadership better situational awareness and increase their understanding of how each TRADOC Center of Excellence supports TRADOC's mission, TRADOC Centers of Excellence are selected to host the forum on a rotating basis.
