Whether it's an Air Force pilot shot down behind enemy lines or an American student taken hostage in a foreign country, the Joint Personnel Recovery Agency stands ready around the clock to provide global assistance.

To ensure the team of wide-ranging professionals involved in personnel recovery maintains its high state of readiness, cadre from the U.S. European Command Personnel Recovery Education and Training Center Mobile Training Team is conducting a five-day class at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC), Germany.

LRMC is also the site where the reintegration process has taken place in the recovery of servicemembers such as Pfc Jessica Lynch, Sgt. Bowie Bergdahl and three U.S. citizens released January 2016 from detention in Iran.

During the training, representatives from EUCOM, U.S. Army Europe, U.S. Special Operations Command Europe and U.S. Navy Europe will focus on increasing their proficiency in preparing for, preventing and responding to isolating events that could result while participating in a military operation in the EUCOM area of responsibility.

Utilizing a mobile training team makes sense from both a practical and financial standpoint, said Chief Warrant Officer 4 Todd Bryant from the USAREUR Personnel Recovery Office.

"Personnel recovery is not included in the professional military education of NCOs, warrant officers or officers," said Bryant. "The Joint Personnel Recovery Agency is DOD's leading agency for Personnel Recovery and provides both residential and mobile courses to increase proficiency in preparing, planning, executing and adapting personnel recovery in their organizations.

"Staff members who need this training are often unable to travel to the U.S. to participate in the courses offered by the Joint Personnel Recovery Agency. Therefore, bringing the Mobile Training Team here saves money and is essential to help key commanders, senior leaders and their staffs who are responsible to Joint Personnel Recovery."
