Piney Valley Golf Course is currently closed due to damage sustained in recent flooding.
"This is one setback, and we are confident we will overcome," is the message Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation director, Wayne Bardell, wants the Fort Leonard Wood community to know about the current closure of the course.
"We will do the best that we can to get back as soon as possible," Bardell added.
Piney Valley Golf Course suffered extensive damage, including damage to the entrance road, driving range nets being ripped up, bunkers getting washed out and the destruction of three pavilions, Bardell said. Outside of the loss of power, the clubhouse, maintenance shed and golf carts were undamaged in the flood.
"This type of flood damage has happened before and with the help of various volunteer groups and a determined MWR maintenance crew, we will get through this small setback again," said Gary Groff, Piney Valley Golf Course manager.
Bardell said any members of the community who would like to assist in the cleanup are welcome to volunteer starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
The anticipated reopening of the course is scheduled for May 25.
